ABOUT THE BAKERY

I started baking when, as a child, I discovered my mother’s Fanny Farmer Cookbook on the kitchen bookshelf. My early attempts at peanut butter cookies were none too impressive, but I loved the creative process and artistic outlet that baking provided.

I started baking with yeast when I was a college student - Alton Brown’s Soft Pretzels were a study session favorite - and over time I expanded my knowledge with recipes for dinner rolls, no-knead bread and focaccia rounds.

In 2020, along with so many other people, I created my first sourdough starter and began perfecting the art of baking crusty and airy crumb artisan loaves. Baking offered me an outlet for the stress and uncertainty of those times and, when our little household couldn’t keep up with my production, I began offering my Bakery creations to members of my community in exchange for donations to cover the cost of ingredients.

At this time, my kitchen is not certified with the state of California, but I am in the certification process. In the meantime my baked goods are not sold via retail outlets or at outdoor markets in accordance with state food laws. I am offering my baked goods to family, friends and local neighbors as a labor of love; your payment is considered a non-taxable donation in exchange for my time and the materials I use in the baking process. If you have any questions or concerns, I invite you to email me at kittie (at) shieldmaidenssanctum (dot) com. Skål!
