  • Elder Futhark rune set features 24 Elder Futhark runes on your choice of Ash or Red Oak hardwood rounds

    • The Ash tree had special significance in Old Norse culture; not only did Odin hang himself from an Ash tree in order to gain knowledge of the runes, Yggdrasil - the mythical tree that holds all nine realms of existence within itself - was believed to be an Ash tree. Ash wood is associated with Odin the Allfather and has the symbolic properties of Flexibility, Strength, and Wisdom.

    • The Oak tree had special significance in Old Norse culture; Oak trees were seen as incredibly strong and resilient, particularly when struck by lightning, and so they became associated with Thor, the Norse god of storms and feats of strength. Talismans and tokens to invoke Thor were thought to be best carved from Oak wood, and since Oak trees were naturally longer lived than other trees in Northern Europe, Oak came to have the symbolic properties of Durability, Longevity, and Vitality.

    • Hardwood is treated with a semi-gloss finish that seals wood, protects from UV exposure, and keeps wood oil- and water-resistant.

  • Each set comes with a linen drawstring pouch and a guide to the rune’s meanings
